During the month of February, the Artists Cooperative Gallery will feature the work of three new member artists - Emily Reay, Vince Martin and Rebecca Rotert. The show runs January 31–February 26, 2023. Please join us at the opening reception on Friday, February 3, 6 to 9 p.m.
Emily Reay is an English artist and illustrator based in Omaha, Nebraska. After studying Fashion Illustration at the London College of Fashion, Emily relocated to the United States and began a career as a freelance illustrator. Drawing inspiration from Americana and early rubber hose animation, her bright, psychedelic work hosts a large cast of surreal and charming characters. Her professional body of work includes album covers, puzzles, pop-out books and merchandise design.
Vince Martin is a local artist who has sold his works in all but two states and numerous countries. Vince rarely has an idea of what he is going to paint before he starts. Vince draws his inspiration from the Holy Spirit. He says a little prayer, turns on some music, and goes from there. He paints from his travels, memories, and other experiences.
Rebecca Rotert is a writer by trade but has painted, mostly privately, since childhood. She views painting as a companion practice to writing, often using the medium to express what is not easily said with sentences and recognizable imagery. Whereas in her written work she focuses on narratives of human experience, in her paintings she aims to convey the layers, gaps, gestures and tones that infuse and inform narrative. As a native Nebraskan, Rotert is enthralled by the land and its endless forms. In her paintings, she weds this idea to her preoccupation with the interior landscapes of people and their relationships, resulting in a kind of mapping of the limbic territories from which our stories spring.
TheArtists' Cooperative Galleryhas been showing work from respected area artists since 1975. Members conduct educational and cultural outreach activities, and maintain and staff the gallery. The space features a wide variety of media, including sculpture, weaving, painting, jewelry, ceramics, photography and drawing. These openings provide the public with an opportunity to meet our members and learn more about their art.
