During the month of March, the Artists Cooperative Gallery will feature the work of two member artists – Mary Kolar and Cindia Carlson. The show runs February 28 – April 2, 2023. Please join us at the opening reception on Friday, March 3, 6 to 9 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
On the High School wall in the small gallery, we will be showing selected works from the Scholastic Art Awards.
Mary Kolar’s work consists of a variety of mediums, found objects, expressions of form, color texture and the breaking up of planes. She focuses on conveying the humorous and sometimes not-so-humorous follies of our everyday lives, and strives to evoke humor with the ambitions, virtues, simplicities or just plain silliness of human beings. Her work symbolizes who and what we are, what we could or want to become, and also what we do not want to become.
Cindia Carlson’s color palette has become part of her signature style. The organization and contrast of figure in landscape and lyrical-Arabesque line, lend to the uniqueness of her work. Personal motifs represent the content of prophetic dream narratives or back stories. Portraiture-to-mask and multimedia sculptures also hold special interest for her. Cindia is a Nebraska native, book author, and college professor with a long list of exhibitions and achievements. Her proven Cherokee ancestry is often evidenced in Cindia’s artwork.
