Opening Reception for "Building Castles in Our Minds" Exhibition

  • Artists' Cooperative Gallery 405 South 11th Street Omaha, NE 68102 United States (map)

The artwork of Holly Tharnish, Nicki Byram and Charlene Potter will be featured in an exhibit, Building Castles in Our Minds, at the Artists' Cooperative Gallery October 28–December 1. Please join us at the opening reception on Friday, November 1, 6 to 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

Holly Tharnish views her most recent works as visual diaries wherein she studies her past, present, and inner workings, while both expressing and examining her existence within her surroundings. Often, she employs the medium of poetry to aid in the process of reconciling information, lists, and thought fragments. Many of these images stray into surrealism as she creates imagined spaces and circumstances based on her own personal experiences, dreams, and imaginings. These recent works fall into an ongoing series she calls Open Seams.

Nicki Byram is an intuitive artist. Usually a couple of brush strokes or drips on the canvas are enough to get her going. The two paintings that show castles are Tour, which is inspired by the French Tour de France, and Camelot Falling from the Arthurian legends. The Sunshine is Melting and Cities Sinking are climate change warnings. Her mind recognized the problems but the "Castles of My Mind" gave no answer to the problem.

Charlene Potter uses mental imagery for her artistic process. She has also been inspired to create a labyrinth in clay for some time. The Labyrinth Castle vision became a reality in 2024. Her Labyrinth Castle's array of sculptures leads the viewer into a fantasy, and two other sculpture series follow the Building Castles in Our Minds title. It's amusing for children.

Please note that our closing time on Friday and Saturday nights has moved an hour earlier, to 9 p.m. You can check HERE for our regular business hours.
