WHEN LIFE HANDS YOU LEMONS…
MAKE LEMONADE”

DAR VANDEVORT AND GEORGE SKUODAS

First Friday Opening Reception August 6th, 6:00-9:00 P.M.

Dar VandeVoort loves the process of pushing color around! Her paintings are intimate because of her familiarity with the subjects. Whether landscapes, animals, figurative or still life, there is always a story behind the scenes. She is originally from Pella Iowa and moved to this area 25 years ago. She produces artwork out of the Hot Shops Art Center, studio #215 in Omaha as well as her home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She lives on an acreage and enjoys all sorts of animals. She teaches private art lessons, group workshops, corporate team building, and assists special projects and produces commissioned works throughout the year. She says, “If you’re not having fun, you’d better get another brush!”

George Skuodas’ work focuses on two avenues. The first being “Fantasy Creatures” which makes use of combinations of found objects usually found in the kitchen, which are combined with old cameras, metal air dryers, or metal power tools, since they are made of metal, he refers to them as “robots”.

The second focus is on outdoor sculptures. These are larger, heavier and require more assembly to stand up to the elements! The processes used to create these sculptures involve the use of a plasma cutter along with welding and mechanical connections using nuts and bolts. These sculptures are purposely rusted to provide a patina that darkens with age, resulting in “Rusty Stuff!”
