In my ceramic work I use both wheel thrown and hand built techniques, choosing the method to use by what the finished piece is to look like. The work is divided amongst three different looks. The first is the traditional stoneware, high fire glazes. The second employs a lower fire earthenware glaze that is decorated with image transfers of works of art by famous artist. The third method is agateware. Agateware is hand made colored clays that are sealed with a clear glaze. When agateware is thrown on the potter’s wheel the resulting mixture of the colors is totally arbitrary, which is what I like most about the technique. It is a surprise every time.

My work is an exploration of texture and topography. Using wood as my primary medium, the organic material is altered through the use of modern tools and traditional techniques. The main themes of my work explore the juxtaposition of sterile and weathered, and the tension between organic and manufactured environments.

My aesthetic is informed by architectural influences, both the clean lines of modern design, as well as more ornate historic structures. The shapes and elevations point to the built environment and are inspired by aerial views of the urban footprint.
