On A Whimsy is a celebration of color and intuitive art making. Together, Nash Bellows’s and Jasmine Greenwaldt’s pieces show two different approaches to art making—Bellows using a computer while Greenwaldt prefers a paint brush. Despite their differences, both aim to give the viewer a sense of whimsy, wonder, and desire to invoke the imagination.
Although Bellows was once a painter her self, her ‘Dreamscapes’ are made digitally from photographs gleaned from the Internet. Her fantastical landscapes represent places you’d see in a dream—lost memories merging spaces that could never exist together in the waking world.
Through explosions of color and movement, Greenwaldt guides the viewer into another realm. She uses abstraction and active motion to showcase the beauty that is all around us. Her expressive brush strokes and bold application of paint, intermixed with delacy help transform our view of reality into something of whimsy.
