The seed of ACG’s February show began with a large loose canvas drying over a rod in Rotert’s studio, waving in the breeze from a nearby window. She watched as the movement changed the image - it seemed to open and close - and set out to make a series of images on stripped, unstretched canvas that would interact with the environment in the same way, moving with a breeze, a fan, a person walking by.

These, along with works on stretched canvas and paper, come together to create Bound/Unbound. Working in acrylics, stains and inks, poetry, existential angst, whimsy, and derring-do, the works are visual explorations of interior emotional landscapes and are therefore often indecipherable and usually very messy. Says Rotert, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

We hope you’ll join in the mess at an opening reception on Sunday, Feb 4, 1-3 at the ACG.
